The Statue of Liberty

Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty, one of New York's most popular tourist attractions.

The Lady Liberty is representing the Roman goddess of freedom, who holds a torch and a tablet evoking the law. Lady Liberty weighs 450,000 pounds and stands 151 feet tall. Following the September 11 attacks, the statue and the Liberty Island were immediately closed to the public. The Island is reopened at the end of 2001, while the pedestal and statue remains off limits. The pedestal reopened in August 2004.

Two weeks ago my fiance, my father-in-law, and I went to see the statue of Liberty! And from what I read the Lady Liberty is color green it's because due to the chemical reactions between metal and water. This process is known as patination. The real color of the Statue of Liberty before the patination was a shiny reddish brown. And most of people didn't know that the Statue of Liberty was a lighthouse. Yep, that's right! a lighthouse for ships coming from New York harbor. And it was the first lighthouse to use electric lamps.

There are two ways on how to get the tickets its either purchase the tickets online in this website http://www.statuecruises.com/ or at the ticket booth at the main location. I hope you guys enjoy your trip!
