Delicious Tom Yam Goong Recipe

Today, I'm going to show you how to make Tom Yam Goong! It is the most famous of Thai soups and is popular not only in Thailand, but in Thai restaurants worldwide! It is a spicy and sour soup flavored with fresh ingredients like lemon grass, galangal, kaffir lime leaf, fish sauce, lime, and chili paste. Tom refers to boiling process and Yam refers to a kind of Lao and Thai spicy and sour salad. And Goong means prawn. Saying this recipe is making my mouth water! Let's get started and here's all you need.


Ingredients:

  • 3/4 lb. prawns, shelled and de-veined
  • 2 stalks lemon grass, smashed and cut into 1 inch
  • pieces
  • 3 slices galangal, smashed
  • 3 fresh kaffir lime leaves
  • 5 tbsp. fish sauce
  • 12 fresh Thai chili peppers
  • 4 cups stocks/broth
  • 1/2 onion
  • 10 mushrooms
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 5 sprigs cilantro
  • 1 1/2 lime
  • 2 tsp. Thai chili paste
  • evaporated milk
  • (some add tomato and tamarind paste, but it is optional)

Methods:

1. Put stock/broth together with galangal and lemon grass into a saucepan and bring to a full boil over medium heat for about 10 minutes.
2. Add kaffir lime leaves and mushrooms and bring to a full boil again. Add prawns and leave to cook without stir. Then turn off, and remove from the heat.
3. Add all the remaining ingredients together with Thai chili paste, fish sauce, lime juice, sugar and chilies. Turn the heat back on and let it boil for another 10 minutes. Lastly add milk and garnish with fresh cilantro.
4. Serve and enjoy! Mmmmmmm.......
